Stylists work with photographers for controlled, smaller shoots on light tables, small sets, on shelving, with a light box or within a light tent. Larger shoots incorporate an entire room, larger sets, indoor and outdoor sets and room sets. Depending on the look desired, tabletop/product photography incorporates backgrounds, solid colors, patterns and white. Many clients choose white, or drop white as it is known, or green screen as the photo easily drops into multiple layouts by the media and websites.
A food stylist purchases props and food and bring ovens and portable cook tops to prepare items perhaps as large as a turkey. Or as small as a pea or a grain of rice. Food photography includes items of food or individual place settings with different food groups
A set stylist designs the scene and works hand-in-hand with the photographer from the setup in advance of the shoot and through the shoot.
