Special Effects
Makeup artists who create “specialty” makeup are special-effects makeup artists. And possess a love of makeup and art. All special-effects artists must work closely with the producer or director to understand the look they wish to achieve. They may be creative within the confines of the goal. The most advanced special effects are created as prosthetics.
A special-effects makeup artist works in film, television and theater to transform an ordinary person into something extraordinary. And yes they love Halloween!

Prosthetics
A complicated special-effects makeup is prosthetic makeup which involves prosthetic sculpting, molding and casting. Casts are taken of the actor’s face with skin-safe rubber, then plaster is poured into the negative cast to create a positive. The prosthetic is built of clay upon the positive cast. Once finished, the second mold is made and that negative mold is coated with latex, gelatin or silicone and ready for application. IMPORTANT: Prosthetics must be crafted with ultra-thin edges for perfect blending.
